How to Set Up a Group Purchase
Select an Item
Find the wishlist item you want to organize a group purchase for and click on "Mark as Purchased".
Tip: Choose items that make sense for group gifting - typically higher-value items that multiple people would be happy to contribute toward.
Choose Group Purchase Option
Select the "Group Purchase" option and click the "Setup Group Purchase" button.
Understand Your Role as Initiator
You'll see information explaining that you'll be the "initiator" - the person managing the group purchase and coordinating with participants. Read the details and click "Got it" to continue.
Important: As the initiator, you'll be responsible for coordinating contributions, managing communication, and ultimately purchasing the item.
Set Up WhatsApp Group (Optional)
You can provide a WhatsApp group invite link where everyone participating can discuss contributions and arrange payments. This makes coordination much easier!
Creating a new WhatsApp group? WhatsApp requires at least two people to create a group. You can use the Wishr helper number to get started:
Don't worry if you don't have a WhatsApp group ready - you can add or update the link later.
Confirm Setup
Click "Setup Group Purchase" to finalize. The item will now be marked as a group purchase and visible to everyone viewing the wishlist.
Managing Your Group Purchase
Adding or Updating WhatsApp Group Link
If you didn't provide a WhatsApp group link initially, or need to update it, simply click "Mark as Purchased" on the item again. You'll have the opportunity to add or update the WhatsApp group URL so participants can easily join the conversation.
Marking as Purchased
Once everyone has contributed and you've purchased the item, you can switch the status to "Mark as Purchased". This will mark the item as fully purchased for everyone viewing the wishlist.
Canceling the Group Purchase
Need to cancel? You can cancel the group purchase at any time, which will restore the item to its original state. After canceling, anyone can mark the item for purchase or set up a new group purchase.
Joining a Group Purchase
Want to contribute to a gift that someone else has already set up as a group purchase? It's easy!

Can I change the initiator?
Currently, the person who sets up the group purchase remains the initiator. If needed, you can cancel the group purchase and have someone else set it up.
Is WhatsApp required?
No! WhatsApp is optional but highly recommended for easy coordination. You can coordinate contributions through email or other means if you prefer.
How do payments work?
Participants arrange payments among themselves (via bank transfer, payment apps, etc.). The initiator typically collects contributions and makes the final purchase.
Can anyone see who's participating?
The initiator can see who has joined the group purchase. Other participants can communicate through the WhatsApp group if one is set up.
What if not enough people join?
The initiator can cancel the group purchase at any time. The item will return to its normal state, and anyone can mark it as purchased or set up a new group purchase.
Can I join multiple group purchases?
Yes! You can participate in as many group purchases as you'd like across different wishlists and items.
